snot
zoe has her first cold and by golly it's amazing how much grief a bit of snot can cause. when i was 12 i broke my arm riding a bike and my mum said up until that point she had always wanted to suffer for me.... but she didn't want to take on the broken arm for me :). at the time i thought it was a strange thing to say however now that i'm a mum myself i can totally understand what she meant. i wish i could take on that snot and blow it out of zoe's nose for her.

an eventful 24 hours
for the most exciting news of this blog.....ZOE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!! we are talking from 9:00pm to 8ish am. for all you non-parents out there this is a most momentous occasion and although i ended up getting up a few times anyhow cause my milk production was going a little spastic (and i wanted to make sure she was still breathing) i felt amazing the next day.
with hopeful intent we put her down the next night with an extra large top up feed only to have our tues night telly watching interrupted by a squealing zoza. squealing and exceptionally hot zoza...she had a fever of 38.6c° ahhhhhhhhhhh what do you do? initially we scanned all our baby books and various internet sites but ended up resorting to the trusty home midwifery service (yeah i know i've long been discharged but i don't know who else to call over at the hospital and given i have already annoyed them with other urgent questions they know me by now). at the time of the call zoe's temperature had decreased to 38.4c° and the nurse recommended baby panadol unless her temperture was above 38.5c° at which point she would have to go to hospital to be checked over. hmmm, now i know i'm a scientist and all but the difference of 0.1c° for a radically different course of action is a little concerning. we opted for the baby panadol and a reassessment an hour later. obtaining baby panadol at midnight on a week day in this city of millions is another blog entry all together but we did manage to get our hands on some, administer it to a spluttering zoe (cherry flavour is evidently not her favourite flavour) and thankfully she was back to her usual self within the hour.
so although we are pretty certain that sleeping through the night does not cause high temperatures the following night we'd love to risk it again for an entire nights sleep!!!

what i've become good at since having zoe
* singing in public
* going for long pointless walks
* talking to strangers about my clacker
* getting up a zillion times during the night
* moving slowly and rhythmically while humming

fingerpainting
for zoe's third month birthday we attempted to make some hand and foot imprints.....the foot was easy, the hands however remained tightly clenched until i was momentarily distracted and she revelled in smearing it all over herself and the change mat. oh well perhaps the 4 month imprints will work out better.

what i love about zoe
- - her sweet milk breath
- - as a new born how she would startle even upon picking her up and in doing so fling her arms wide to unintentionally embrace your neck
- - kissing her chubby cheeks
- - those satisfied groans at the end of a feed
- - her soundless giggle
- - the way she plays with her hair at the back of her head during a feed
- - her deltoid fat deposits
- - that strained pooing face
- - how she practices talking with her mouth closed
