Z-spotting

Zoe is getting into her letters big time. Whenever she sees a 'z' she will entusiastically shout, "Look, like in Zoe!" She can spell her name on the computer and knows a number of other letters too. Part of that is thanks to the little letter toy on our fridge which she uses every day and which livelies up the kitchen with an encouraging if somewhat monotonous teacher's voice saying "b, say buh" or the like. And no, she still doesn't need glasses.

Rats, it's nits

It started with a little itch. First on one side of the head, then on the other, and by the time Zoe was frantically scratching all over we figured she had picked up nits, which were doing the rounds at day care. And sure enough, a quick examination revealed the little black buggers were not only feasting on her scalp but busily laying eggs too. Luckily there are plenty of fairly effective and supposedly mild lotions on the market, so a good scrub and half an hour conditioner hothouse under that wonderful green shower cup scared the nits away - but not before some of them managed to jump onto Vivien's head...
